The Coronavirus crisis has made it clear to all of us that despite the nice words and declarations, special families and children with special needs are at the bottom of the national priorities in the State of Israel. During these times of emergency, of all times, our special children were abandoned. 330,000 special families were pushed aside as a lower priority.
Here are some examples:
• Parents were separated from their children who live in hostels and were not permitted to visit them.
• Special children were forced into an impossible reality of breaking the routine that protects them and gives them security; as a result, many of them have deteriorated into situations of dangerous violence.
• At-risk special families did not receive solutions for either remote or at-home assistance.
Shocking, isn’t it?
At Kesher – The Home for Special Families, we quickly understood that if we don’t fight, special families will be left to deal on their own with arbitrary and unsuitable decisions. We worked day and night with government agencies and, on more than one occasion, succeeded
in changing decisions and policies. In addition, we took further measures:
1. We established “Kesher’s Virtual Home”, in order to provide parents with support and tools to handle the crisis and we provided enrichment activities from afar, for the special children at home.
2. We offered lectures, workshops and guidance sessions with senior professionals to the families in order to help them in dealing with the new, impossible routine.
These efforts must continue!
Operating our services during this crisis requires Kesher to make unexpected expenditures, while witnessing a decrease in its income. As our work is crucial, now more than ever, we reach out to you with the hope that you can open your heart and make a donation to our organization.
In the attached video clip, Alon Dahan, an actor at the Cameri Theater (currently on unpaid leave of absence), shares the great difficulty of special families during such times of crises and the need to strengthen Kesher in order to care for families precisely at such moments.
Special families must not be left on their own – donate to the Kesher organization!
Thank you very much,
