Before making this donation of "gifts to the poor", you should say this tefilla (short prayer): לְשֵׁם יִחוּד קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וּשְׁכִינְתֵּיהּ, בִּדְחִילוּ וּרְחִימוּ, לְיַחֵד שֵׁם י"ה בְּו"ה בְּיִחוּדָא שְׁלִים בְּשֵׁם כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל, הֲרֵינִי מוּכָן לְקַיֵּם מִצְוַת עֲשֵׂה שֶׁכָּתוּב בְּתוֹרָתֵנוּ הַקְּדוֹשָׁה שֶׁצִּוַּנִי יוֹצְרִי וּבוֹרְאִי בָּרוּךְ הוּא וּבָרוּךְ שְׁמוֹ שֶׁל נָתוֹן תִּתֵּן וְשֶׁל פָּתֹחַ תִּפְתַּח וְגַם מִצְוַת עֲשֵׂה שֶׂל קַבָּלָה וּמַתָּנוֹת לָאֶבְיֹנִים: (I'm hereby ready to perform this positive commandment that is written in our Holy Torah that my Creator, may His Name be blessed, commanded us, of giving charity as well as gifting the poor.)
