Agunah Day: Freedom for Michal

Gone are the days when agunot must sit and passively wait for a get. We have the tools to change it ourselves, but we need you to help us implement them on the ground. This Agunah Day, you can help Michal and all agunot in a concrete way by supporting our legal advocacy campaign to file damage suits on their behalf. Get refusal is abuse, and Michal and all other women who suffer this abuse are entitled to compensation from their abusers like any other form of domestic violence. We have filed and won hundreds of thousands of shekels of damage suits for women like Michal. Not only do these suits have a nearly 100% success rate resulting in an immediate giving of the get and financial relief to these women, they send a clear social message that get refusal is abuse and carries consequences. Most importantly, the damage suits give women back their power and their freedom. CWJ is filing damage suits for Michal--both against her get-refusing husband and against his father, who has aided and abetted in his son’s abuse.
