Ahuva Prager Occupational Therapy Program

Ahuva Prager z”l left an indelible impression on all who met her. She was a gentle and generous person blessed with an abundance of special qualities. Ahuva loved children, the elderly, nature and animals. Her ability to listen without judgment, her wry sense of humor, eye for detail, keen intelligence, and grounded, genuine soul made her a pleasure to be around. Her family was her priority and she poured all her creativity, love and energy into raising her two children. She trained as an occupational therapist and worked for a year in geriatrics, a perfect match for her talents. Ahuva was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 25. While Ahuva’s illness prevented her from working long as an occupational therapist, she would have undoubtedly continued to use her green thumb and her talent for crochet, no less than her natural empathy and ability to identify with others, to help her patients regain their functioning and independence. Although her initial cancer treatments appeared successful, Ahuva’s cancer returned shortly after her aliyah in 2006. She passed away in 2011 at 32 years old, leaving behind countless family and friends who loved her dearly and miss her still. This Adar, as Ahuva’s tenth yahrzeit approaches, we hope to dedicate an expanded Occupational Therapy Program in her memory in the Beit Shemesh branch of Melabev. Melabev is an award-winning day program for adults suffering from dementia and Alzheimers. Expansion of the Occupational Therapy Program will fund additional therapy hours and the purchase of technological assistive devices and adaptive equipment. Melabev is an organization which promotes many ideals important to Ahuva, and we believe that the dedication of the Beit Shemesh Occupation Therapy Program is a most fitting tribute to her memory.
