From Pain to Power: The Healing Journey of VideoTherapy
In January 2025, fourteen bereaved mothers who lost their sons defending Israel gathered at the President's Residence to premiere their powerful short film - a creative testament to their grief, love, and resilience. Through Maaleh's innovative VideoTherapy program, these mothers transformed their profound loss into a meaningful artistic expression, sharing their "new lives" through the lens of film.
For over two decades, Maaleh Film School has pioneered VideoTherapy, a groundbreaking methodology that combines professional therapeutic support with the transformative power of filmmaking. Under the guidance of both a skilled filmmaker and a professional therapist, participants harness the tools of cinema - writing, filming, editing, and music - to explore their experiences and begin their journey of healing.
Each VideoTherapy workshop brings together 15 participants who share a common challenge or trauma. Meeting weekly over several months, they learn to tell their stories through film, culminating in the creation of a collaborative short film that captures their shared experience. These deeply moving films bring together families and friends, creating moments of connection and understanding.
In the wake of October 7th, the need for healing spaces has never been greater. Maaleh launched two VideoTherapy workshops in May 2024, including a group for bereaved grandparents. With your support, we can open more workshops to serve the many communities seeking healing through this unique and proven approach.
Your Impact:
• $50,000 funds one complete VideoTherapy workshop
• Each workshop directly supports 15 participants on their healing journey
• Professional guidance from both therapeutic and filmmaking experts
• Creation of lasting testimonies that can help others facing similar challenges
Together, we can help more people transform their pain into powerful stories of healing and hope.
