A Heart for Michael#

Michael Kahana, 11.5 years old, loves sports, cooking, and building with lego, beloved son of  Gadi and Maor, adored brother of 2 older sisters: Yuval and Ariel. Michael was born with a heart disease called cardiomyopathy. In simple words - a disease that harms the effective contraction of the leftside of the heart. As for today, there is no existing procedure or a surgery that can heal this disease. you can only imagine what happens when the most important organ in the body isn't working properly... Till today... Michael hasn't given himself any special attention or any discounts, and insisted on being a normal kid amongst his friends. Took the goalkeeper position in soccer, swam close to the wall at the pool, participated in the scouts and took part in all the activities he could, surfed in the sea with close watch and help of his father. Michael managed to enjoy his almost normal life, due to the help of many medications that he is required to take multiple times a day. Michael has taken his physical and social struggles like a champ! The fast deterioration In the last five months, a fast deterioration occurred in the condition of Michael's heart -
Heart Failure which results in the incapability of the heart to supply blood to the body properly. Today Michael can't do any physical activity he loved, he even has trouble going up the stairs in our house, and sometimes has trouble breathing- action that for the most of us is so obvious. The doctors have decided Michael needs a heart transplant immediately! And so at age 11.5,  our Michael jumped to the head of the heart transplant waiting list in Israel. Time is running out…
5 monthes have passed and we are still waiting, there is no foreseeable opportunity and the statistics in Israel are not in our favor... In Israel there are not enough transplants! for now he is required to stay in the hospital every two weeks for a few days to get medication straight to the heart. 
From time to time the impact of these medications decreases. If a heart for Michael is not found soon, his heart might stop responding to the medicines. In this case Michael will have to be connected to a Cardiopulmonary bypass - a heart-lung machine. Time is running out and  Michael’s condition is getting worse and worse... The solution! We have no more time left to spare, so we decided to try other ways! The only option left is a heart transplant in the US, a challenging option financially and logistically, but possible! We must stay in the hospital before the operation to prepare, go through the surgery safely,  and go through the recovery  and rehab process that is estimated to take a few months.
