Petition against Non-Jewish Aliyah to Israel

The State of Israel is the state of the Jewish people. Its immigration policy is based on the Law of Return, which states that anyone who immigrates to Israel immigrates by virtue of his affinity for Judaism. On the 9th of November, 2021, the Israeli government passed a decision breaking the fence of the Law of Return, approving the migration of 3,000 non-Jews waiting in the camps in Addis Ababa and Gudgar. This decision is yet another in a series of government decisions made in the past two decades, to raise thousands of Ethiopian citizens whose connection to Judaism does not exist. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, since 2013 only two percent of Ethiopian immigrants are Jews. Things reached a climax when, contrary to the position of the National Security Council, the government conducted a covert operation involving agents of the Mossad to raise 77 Ethiopians who participated in the civil war there. After a while it became clear that none of those dozens of people had any affinity at all with Judaism. In 2008, representatives of the Jewish Agency and the State Comptroller ruled that there were no returnees left in the waiting camps in Ethiopia. A survey by the Smith Institute revealed that the vast majority of the Israeli public considers the Law of Return to be the exclusive immigration policy to Israel. Therefore, we decided, together with representatives of the Ethiopian community, to petition the High Court of Justice to overturn this government decision and stop the ongoing saga of bringing non-Jews to Israel.
