Playing is the first learning environment for a child. By playing, children have enhancing and constructive experiences in every area: thinking, physical skills, speech, friendship, psychological and emotional. Pleasure is an integral part of playing, and has a positive effect on our mental state. Through playtime children learn to familiarize themselves with their physical and social environment. It also helps them to get to know themselves and their strengths, learn to control their bodies and surroundings, express their thoughts and feelings, and work through conflicts. The blind and visually impaired often develop playing capabilities later than other children due to their impairment, which also affects development of motor skills. Their impairment makes it harder for them to mimic their surroundings, affecting both their level of playing and their ability to acquire social and communicative skills. It could also affect their cognitive abilities. It is therefore of crucial importance to build them a playroom that suits their needs. Their playing environment must be accessible, and contain customized games. Such solutions would contribute to the improvement and advancement of the blind and visually impaired, allowing them to realize their full developmental and functional potential.
