The Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod, attracts culture and art lovers, scholars, curators, and artists from Israel and worldwide. Its humble beginning was in the “art corner” set up on the kibbutz in 1938, in the studio of the local painter Haim Atar – the Museum’s visionary and founder. Inaugurated in 1948, the Museum’s permanent building is a modernist architectural masterpiece, considered to be groundbreaking on an international scale and applauded for its ingenious treatment and use of the Israeli light.
Twelve exhibition halls and galleries, sculpture gardens and inner courtyards, a library, conservation lab, and storage spaces that hold an art collection comprising over 20,000 items, were built to realize the Museum’s mission – to serve as a place for documenting and displaying Jewish, Israeli, and contemporary art, a hub of education, culture and art, of meeting and gathering. Particularly in light of its location, at the very heart of Israel’s periphery, these have a significant impact on the enhancement of the cultural experience for the general public.
