Assisting Holocaust survivors in Israel to live with dignity
Donors: 3
There are currently 133,300 Holocaust survivors living in Israel, with an average age of 87 years. As they face the challenges of their later years, the scope and diversity of their needs are steadily increasing.
The Foundation for the Welfare of Holocaust Victims is a non-profit organization that was established by Holocaust survivors for Holocaust survivors 30 years ago. It is dedicated to planning and implementing solutions that address the personal needs of each survivor in Israel. Our goal is to enable the Holocaust survivors to age with dignity.
In 2023, we assisted approximately 81,000 Holocaust survivors in need in various areas, including an additional 9 hours of nursing care, individualized social support, access to panic buttons services, home modifications, dental care, eyeglasses, medications and medical treatments, (which are not included in the health basket), hygiene and absorption items, food vouchers, and more.
Furthermore, we run volunteers and community programs that encompass a range of activities, such as the "Bridge to Connect", where volunteers maintain regular social contact with survivors, visiting them at least once a week. We also organize leisure and social events around holidays and other occasions, assign volunteers for individual assistance as required, and run the "Connected" program in partnership with Ort Schools and the Ministry of Social Affairs. This program involves high school students visiting survivors' homes to foster intergenerational connections and alleviate loneliness. Additionally, we equip survivors with tablets and internet access and initiate joint social activities.
The primary funding for the foundation is received from the Authority for the Rights of Holocaust Survivors and the Claims Conference, specifically allocated for an additional 9 hours of nursing care. Moreover, we actively seek funds and resources from private and institutional donors in Israel and abroad to enhance our capacity to meet the evolving needs of Holocaust survivors.
Mrs. Limor Livnat serves as the voluntary chairperson of the foundation, with the executive board comprising half Holocaust survivors and half second-generation members, all volunteering their time and efforts.
NOW MORE THAN EVER, it is imperative that we do everything within our power to repay, even if in small measure, the debt owed to Holocaust survivors. TOGETHER, through collective efforts, we will continue to stand by the Holocaust survivors BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
