Yeshivat Meorot, which is run by the Association of "Shemesh and Maor" , educates students among the ultra-Orthodox. They teach youth by way of Torah excellence, together with general studies on the core subjects defined by the Ministry of Education. The Yeshiva is dedicated to taking social and personal responsibility for the life of the community and the individual. The Yeshiva students are partners in helping and assisting disadvantaged students who need emotional and educational support. An important project that the Yeshiva promotes is the environmental issues facing our society today. Our yeshiva educates sustainability of society while minimizing the use of plastic. They teach separating organic waste used by the compost site from which the local garden is fertilized. As well, watering our garden is carried out with recycled water. The yeshiva promotes education for sustainability even outside the yeshiva, in the city of Beit Shemesh, while increasing public awareness of the subject. The flag project of the yeshiva is "Learning about Jerusalem Through the Ages". The students deal with the multidisciplinary clearness of the Tanach and the sages through history and archeology. The verses of the Bible that describe the First Temple period take shape and receive depth when the students experience them through the historical story and the archaeological findings. These projects require far more resources than the Ministry of Education budget, and that is why we turn to fundraising.
