The Harel Association- Programs for the Advancement of Education in Israel

Established in 2016, Mechinat Harel - the Harel Pre-IDF Preparatory Academy was founded to provide an opportunity for those who otherwise wouldn't be able to shine. The intensive six-month residential program provides highest-level preparation – not only for army service, but also, paying special focus on facilitating success in post-army life.  While there were and are other mechinot, each with its own niche, Mechinat Harel is unique in providing a home-base and springboard for realizing dreams – for those who would otherwise fall through the cracks. For 11 years, at our initial branch in Jerusalem and then in Be'er Yaakov as well, we have provided an opportunity for 430 wonderful young men and women who otherwise wouldn't have been able to shine; helping them overcome challenges and maximize their potential.        In particular, Mechinat Harel proudly welcomes youth:  • from the geographic and social periphery • from 'at-risk' backgrounds • from the Russian-Speaking community • from difficult family backgrounds • Olim Chadashim – (new immigrants) • with low academics    As our near-decade of experience shows, once given the opportunity, these wonderful young men and women rise to the occasion. Performing meaningful IDF service well beyond normal levels, connecting with Judaism & Israeli society in ways nobody thought possible, and effectively transitioning to independent, financially responsible and socially engaged adult life. We have three unique campuses:  1)  Jerusalem, (Est. 2016) -  The only program geared towards lone immigrants, and children of immigrants, from the former Soviet Union.      2) Be'er Yaakov (Est. 2023) - For Israeli born students from traditional but often difficult personal backgrounds.    3)   Netivot, Gaza Envelope Region  (*NEW*) - Empowering youth of Israel's geographic and social periphery with limited or no other paths forward, to best develop themselves while also genuinely contributing to the region's rehabilitation.  Please help us keep this unique Zionist endeavor available, and join us in helping these brave young men and women from challenging backgrounds to become their absolute best selves; best IDF soldiers; and best Israeli citizens.     Because we ALL want to give Israel our best.
