From Slavery to Freedom

Right now, a 13 year old cow in a dairy farm in the north of the country is waiting to be rescued. During her lifetime, she was impregnated and separated from her babies 11 times. 45,000 gallons of milk were milked from her. She has never had a clean place to lay, tasted grass and experienced the warmth of sunshine on her face. The average cow spends 5-6 years on a dairy farm, during which she is impregnated several times. If a male calf is born, he is sent to a fattening farm and then to slaughter. If a female calf is born, she will become a dairy cow, just like her mother. After several years on a dairy farm, milk production and the quality of the milk drop drastically, after which the cows are sent to slaughter and are sold for their meat by the pound. This 13 year old cow is an exception. She is perhaps the oldest surviving cow on a dairy farm in Israel. She has lived this long thanks to her exceptional milk production, which has kept her profitable, and hence granted her immunity from slaughter. Thankfully, her farmers decided to spare her life and provide her with a graceful retirement with us at Freedom Farm Sanctuary. We welcome you to join us in supporting this cow's journey to freedom.
