Kulna is a home of culture and education in the
spirit and values of the Jewish traditional heritage
from Islamic and Eastern countries, working
towards the rise of a connected and attentive
society which strives for justice
Kulna came into being in 2017 under the auspices of the “Young
Adults in Yeruham” organization. Its aim was to reflect and shape
the language of Masortiyut (traditionalism) as a possibility for Jewish
life in Israel and the Diaspora. We strive to be a cultural and social
influence in the spirit and the tradition of Jewish communities
heritage in Islamic and Eastern countries. This tradition gave a
natural expression to a moderate and attentive Judaism connecting
East and West, old and new. A pluralistic Judaism that brings all
sections of Jewish and Israeli society closer together and also works
towards the creation of Jewish-Arab coexistence.
Our story begins with yearning. A group of young Israelis who met
in Yeruham and on a trip to Morocco, who found one another, and
above all, found a home. The connection between regions that were
apparently distant from one another was revealed as a secret path
to a rich Jewish spring, full of life and close to our heart and soul.
The location remote from the center of gravity of Israel was just
what brought us back to our natural territory – to each one’s homes,
families, and individual identities, and that was what gave us the
inspiration to found Kulna. The founders include Dr. David Biton, Kobi
Yifrach,Yaniv Yitzhak, Tzurit Bouskila and Galia Samin.
Kulna is active today in Israel and in Morocco, running educational
leadership programs, study programs and Batei Midrash, identity
trips to Morocco, an academic School for Traditional and Creative
Arts with tracks for traditional music arts and crafts, hilula events
and online kits, conferences and additional programs that act as a
lodestone of discourse and connection between Jews and Arabs
