“No one speak with” or “freak, no one likes you” “that’s just kids” “leave it, we don’t interfere with what the children are doing” Kanfey Dror, was founded by the El Ami family in memory of their son, Dror, a bright sensitive young man who suffered from social bullying as a child. Despite later success in school, army service and university the wounds inflicted on him as a child defeated him as an adult. Social bullying is a terrible problem happening in our schools and children’s social spaces. Adults and the wider community ignore it. Social bullying scars it’s victims deeply. Every year social bullying leads to suicide amongst children and adults. “A child who’s been outcast, he never recovers, he only wears an adults clothes” (Noam Horev) Adults treat social bullying as an inevitable part of childhood. There’s a perception that there’s nothing to be done. But we know things must change, and a lot can be done and it will save lives. We Kanfey Dror will address the problem of Social Bullying through two channels: • Initiating and sustain public dialog on social bullying, changing the conversation in the family and the community and creating awareness of personal and public responsibility. • Putting in place systems within community and educational settings to enable joint-up working to handle occurrences of social bullying and accompany and safeguard children and families in crisis. The change plan suggests is combined action between changing public dialog and developing a response. Integrating the difference educational systems, formal and informal, Kanfey Dror will bring together different stakeholders to effectively cope with the problem. We have begun work with the Association of Community Centers, The Jerusalem Municipality and other bodies.
