Society for the Advancement of the Oral Tradition in Israel

The Society for the Advancement of the Oral Tradition in Israel is an agent for change and development of innovative study and research of the Torah Sheb'al Peh. The focus of the Society is the research, study and teaching of Mishnah and Talmud for all ages. The lead project of the Society is "Talmud Or Meir" - a revolutionary website in the world of Talmudic research and study! www.talmudormeir.com The site presents the Babylonian Talmud divided into its 11,000 constituent discussions (sugyot), each presented on a separate page. Each sugyah is divided into meaningful lines, numbered for convenience of navigation, and all material is colored in one of four colors to represent sources from Mikra, Tannaitic Literature, Amoraic Literature, and Shakla V'Tarya (Stama D'Talmuda). The site accompanies learning with aids never before available until now, including scientific identification of tens of thousands of references to scholars, thousands of usages of Talmudic terms, and dozens of videos explaining both the methodology of the site and learning and research skills for site users. Future development of the site will include the first-ever edition of a complete Torat Tannaim, polychrome, layered presentation of the Talmud Yerushalmi, manuscript readings according to the sugyot presented on the site, and a remarkable educational robot which will guide any learner from his/her present learning level to independent learning capability with thousands of screens of explanation and practice. Site users have direct connection to the researchers developing the site who are experienced in educational guidance and teaching.
