Rebuilding Shelters Under Fire Israel is under attack, and many people around the world have been asking what they can do to show support, and to help save lives. Here is your chance. Shelters and safe rooms are critical to protect families from the onslaught of missiles, and yet many people don’t have the luxury of their own private safe room, relying on communal shelters that serve a whole building. After years of disuse, many of these communal shelters are unusable, as they are dangerous, filled with trash, or are without electricity or plumbing. Over the past few years, Osim Shchuna has cleaned out thousands of shelters in the South of Israel, saving countless lives. Just recently, a rocket fell in Ashdod, and tenants were protected in a shelter that we had restored just minutes beforehand. Now, we are turning our attention to the North. As the war becomes increasingly volatile and dangerous for those in the North of Israel, cleaning and restoring these shelters is a matter of life and death, especially for those in poorer neighborhoods, and in older buildings. Right now, thousands of our elderly citizens, alongside women and children, are terrified in their homes, without a protected space, and with no-one to take responsibility for their safety. Help us save lives. There are currently hundreds, if not thousands, of shelters that are in desperate need of attention. 4,000 NIS (approximately $1,000 USD) will pay for the restoration of one shelter. This ensures that occupants have electricity and running water facilities, and provides the tools and logistics to support volunteers who are working around the clock to make a difference.
