Polluters will pay- Haifa Bay defenders

AIR POLLUTION IN THE HAIFA BAY AREA ENDANGERS LIVES! It’s no secret. We already know it. The writing is on the wall. Environmental organizations have issued alerts, the Health Ministry has warned us, there are dozens of committees, reports and recommendations, yet people are still getting sick and the emission of polluting elements continues. Nothing is stopping them, and nobody is preventing the disaster that is endangering the lives of thousands of residents in the Haifa Bay area. AND NOBODY IS HOLDING THE POLLUTING PARTIES ACCOUNTABLE! We – the Citizens for the Environment Association – have decided to take action: We have started civil proceedings on behalf of environmental victims and their families and for the future of the region. This includes a class actions lawsuit brought against thirty polluting parties in which we claim that pollution caused by them has damaged the health of Haifa Bay residents with lung cancer and NHL (Non-Hodgkin lymphoma). The lawsuit is supported by opinion reports by leading experts in Israel and abroad in the field of Environmental Medicine We are currently awaiting the defendants’ response and opinion reports from experts on their behalf. We will subsequently be required to prepare our response and continue to fund the process in order to prove the plants’ and port’s accountability. These are huge and very powerful parties who are investing enormous amounts in their defense that are unavailable to their victims! No cancer patient can stand alone against thirty plants and ports. No victim can afford to pay such exorbitant legal fees. Thanks to your generous donations we were able to pay for the first stage of the legal proceedings and submitted the claim on behalf of those who cannot afford to pay, of those who have suffered for years, and in order to bring the “polluter pays” principle into effect. THUS ENSURING JUSTICE FOR THE INJURED PARTIES! Hurting their pockets will convince polluters that they need to stop. Our crowdfunding campaign was launched to give each and every one of you a chance to be part of this important battle and in any further steps we will undertake. Your contribution will help us continue with the legal steps we have taken as well as further claims to be submitted against polluters and thus to achieve our aim of winning reparations for pollution victims and their families. Initial goal: 250,000 Shekels About us “Citizens for the Environment” is an NGO that works together with residents to protect the environment and people from environmental pollution. Inter alia, the organization promotes public awareness about environmental issues; supports groups of citizens involved in pro-environment activities in their region; encourages active community leadership to promote environmental goals; collects, monitors and distributes information on the environmental behavior of manufacturing plants, etc. The NGO has a Certificate of Proper Management and all donations are deposited in a supervised bank account. All donations are tax-deductible under Section 46 of the Israeli Income Tax Ordinance. We hereby declare that your donation will be used solely for the purpose of covering existing and future legal fees for court proceedings against polluters in the Haifa Bay area. The purpose of our struggle is to help the residents of Haifa, but not only. This is an issue that affects all residents of Israel – the health of all citizens and our children. Industrial areas and ports that pollute the air exist across Israel, from the south to the north – near residential areas, kindergartens and schools. We believe that if the manufacturing plants responsible for polluting the Haifa Bay area are made to pay reparations others will understand that polluting the air has a price.
