We cannot get through this alone.
Since the unprecedented events of October 7, Israelis have been in desperate need of support on all fronts. Parents and therapists are overwhelmed with supporting others in a sea of chaos and conflicting information. As experts in trauma treatment and resilience, METIV, the Israel Psychotrauma Center, has been contacted by over 2500 psychologists and social workers who don’t feel equipped to help the survivors, soldiers, evacuees, families of the hostages, and others affected by the attack and its aftermath.
In addition to our longstanding treatment, training, and research programs, we are responding to the emergency in several ways:
- Professional, around-the-clock support for trauma-informed childcare, offered to more than 4,000 people via Whatsapp.
- Short training courses in trauma care for mental-health professionals at organizations like the Clalit health fund, Ichilov Hospital, and municipal educational psychology service units.
- Continued care for 1,500 elderly and vulnerable people evacuated from Sderot, who are at risk of being left without help when government funds run out.
- Free preliminary therapy or stabilization sessions for those in need.
We at METIV are calling for support from every community that we can reach so we can continue to give these services free of charge to those who need it the most in these dark and unprecedented days. If we have learned anything from our country since we began our work in 1989, it’s that our resilience and strength stems from the support we give each other.
