“Ken Lakaken” is a nongovernmental volunteer organization that serves as ombudsman for the maintenance and advancement of the rights of senior citizens on the personal and public levels. “Ken Lazaken” is run by devoted volunteers who are all retirees with expertise in the area of elderly rights.
On the personal level “Ken Lazaken” operates a telephone rights hotline, to which elderly persons and their families can call. The hotline provides active assistance in realizing their rights in every area of life. The service is given free of charge in Hebrew and Russian. To this day we have responded to over 50,000 callers, most of whom were helped by their communication with us.
On the public level “Ken Lazaken” consists of a major force in the fight to advance the rights of senior citizens on the national and local levels – by means of legislation, procedural change, dialogue with policy makers, position papers, the communications media and legal tools. Among the public issues on our agenda: residential and home nursing care, foreign workers, Holocaust survivor rights, honorable living income and increasing old age allowance.
By virtue of our activity over 600 million shekels (since 2004) has been returned to the elderly public. In 2014 we received the Speaker of the Knesset award.
