Tenufa Bakehila - Building Hope

Tenufa Bakehila – Building Hope is the only nonprofit organization in Israel that provides urgent home repairs while offering social work advocacy to families in need. Our recipients include: • single-parent families • Holocaust survivors • senior citizens • families with members who suffer from physical and/or mental illness • poverty-stricken young families who can’t make ends meet and others who are experiencing hardship. Families living in poverty have no means of carrying out ongoing home maintenance. Over the years their homes can sink into dangerous disrepair. Tenufa Bakehila assists these families by fixing crumbling walls and ceilings, leaky roofs, and hazardous electrical and plumbing systems, replacing broken doors, windows, and tiles, and restoring nonfunctional kitchen counters and cabinets. As repairs are being completed in the home, families are assigned to a social worker who offers advocacy and assistance with specific struggles, such as unemployment, issues of mental and physical health, and navigating government offices. Through our connections with other aid organizations, we offer our clients new furniture and appliances, access to packaged and fresh food, free legal advocacy, dental and vision care, and more. This holistic approach of simultaneously working to fix the home and the underlying problems within the home creates long lasting improvement in the lives of our clients.
