Yad Ezra V'Shulamit

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is the non-profit responsible for feeding the most poor in Israel of any other organization. Founded in 1988 by Aryeh Lurie who experienced childhood poverty himself, the organization is driven to break the cycle of poverty through food distribution, and holistic support for the needy. Every week, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit distributes over 12,000 food baskets to widows, orphans, families, children, and the elderly, reaching the poor at 93 distribution points all across Israel. In addition, they give monthly grocery vouchers to 300 widows, and supply mothers-in-need with baby formula for their hungry infants. Yad Ezra V’Shualmit was honored twice this year in the Knesset for distributing 500 tons of food every week! For Passover and Rosh Hashana, they give over 60,000 baskets, and for other holidays, like Shavuot, they give 17,000 food baskets and grocery vouchers. Yad Ezra V’Shulamit operates three Children’s Centers where children receive a daily hot lunch, clothing, shoes, school supplies, and food for the next day at school. They also provide needy children with a summer day-camp experience, helping them thrive emotionally and socially. Their primary goal is simple and powerful: no child should go to bed hungry. Additionally, Yad Ezra V’Shualmit’s wedding sponsorship program helps orphans and needy couples celebrate their weddings at one of three non-profit wedding halls with dignity.
