The Jacob Berman Community Center – Congregation Tifereth Moshe is a thriving nonprofit and Modern Orthodox synagogue founded in 1970. Situated on the green, insulated campus of Bnei Akiva’s Yeshivat Hadarom in Rehovot, right next to the Orot College, the shul offers daily prayer services and caters to more than 300 member families. Our Tzedakah Committee, which works arm in arm with the City of Rehovot’s Social Services Division, manages a charity budget of hundreds of thousands of shekels per year and Psifas, our outreach arm, offers programs such as meet-ups and certain High Holiday prayer services to bridge gaps between secular and observant Jews.
Our diverse membership includes people who made Aliyah from English-speaking countries as well as families and individuals for whom Hebrew is their mother tongue. The community has continued to grow at an average of more than ten families a year and offers a warm and open atmosphere to new and old members alike. Our members include professionals, academics, students, military, and more. The synagogue is run almost entirely by volunteers, while our charitable and outreach activities are entirely volunteer based, enabling us to use the vast majority of donations we receive for charity (with only a small amount going to our platform providers and none to us).
While the shul itself does not have a formal “pulpit” rabbi, our membership includes several rabbanim with smicha in a wide range of subjects, many of whom are also professors in secular fields. In addition to our other activities, the shul has a lay Board that oversees educational programs (including a wide range of lectures and speakers open to the entire Rehovot community – members and nonmembers alike), social programs and events, a Chesed Committee that helps new parents, a Bikur Cholim Committee, youth programs, and our Hospitality Committee works tirelessly to make newcomers and guests feel welcome.
If you are in the Rehovot area, pay us a visit, maybe even stay for Shabbat, and experience the Berman "family" for yourself!
