Scheinberg Association, a path to Gaining independence The association supports discharged lone soldiers, and veterans that suffer from post-trauma -PTSD, and other emotional/mental challenges. When lone soldiers get the right mentorship and direction they are more likely to stay in Israel and integrate into the Israeli society feeling a sense of belonging despite the challenges of being without a family. Scheinberg association supports lone soldiers, Israeli born or not, who served as combat soldier and support combat soldiers men and women. Goals: Provides tools for seamless integration into Israeli society and elevating the feeling of belonging after their military service. Guiding lone soldiers while they are at the mandatory service and 5 years after they are released. Ensuring they become fully independent and make themselves a living with dignity. 1) Association activities in the Lone Solider Program: Screening and Admitting lone soldiers from the unit prior to release date. Creating mental and emotional network support of professionals at a variety of fields. Training mentors to be matched to each lone soldier A 5 year commitment from each mentor, who served in the Unit. Financial help per personal needs. Providing Scholarships and living expenses. Scholarships recipients are required to volunteer for a community service A weekly surfing group for lone soldiers and veterans. A weekly martial arts group for lone soldiers and veterans. 2) Association activities in the PTSD/Resilience Program: For the past six years Scheinberg Association has researched the field of PTSD and resilience as a result of intense military service and exposure to trauma. The issue of PTSD has become a top priority and we collaborate with other foundations and professionals to identify the most cutting edge therapies and methodologies to cope with PTSD. Some of the services we provide are: Legal consulting, Therapy through Sailing, Somatic therapy ,Breathwork, Equine Therapy, Art Therapy, Writing and more.... We realized that every person has different needs and we need to build a customized case therapy that best suits the individual In addition, we understand that raising awareness in the unit, the IDF and the state of Israel as a whole is crucial to encourage thousands of PTSD sufferers who live in denial of their condition and fear to be exposed. Since the horrific day of October 7th 2023, An additional layer of complexity has been added to many lone soldiers who are currently serving, and the soldiers who are currently part of the reserves. Immediately we took action; to be there and support the lone soldiers who do not have family, while recovering from combat wounds. Including soldiers who participated in combat this past year around and in Gaza and the surrounding area. The majority of what we are encountering are mental and emotional issues and requests for help. Such resources include support groups for “soldiers who volunteer to protect the land”, “Soldiers who lost friends at combat” and “soldiers who have been exposed to horrific images at war” Most of the cases we see are mental health and emotional trauma. Such wounds are not visible and therefore are hard for some to explain and see which makes recovery difficult. We believe that with your contribution, we could create the proper environment and services for our soldiers, involving professionals who are experts in post trauma treatment and help support our soldiers who are suffering with PTSD as a result of combat experience. An additional project we are currently working on is called “ A Journey Through Nature” A destination journey, that deals and discuss past experiences as a combat unit. We understand and recognize that the act of leaving on this journey as a team, equipped with professionals, will help to decrease the chance of PTSD episodes in the future. Moreover, stringing the ability to return into society, or even a second round of combat. Our goal is to create a number of journeys per year, out side of Israel, giving our soldiers the opportunities to deal and come together full circle. Discussing it out loud, their experiences, their prospective, away from home and Israel every days stress. Disconnecting from it all and becoming a unit again. A safe place as a unit! Returning home after such a journey, to everyday life, parents, spouses, children, work, the soldiers will return stronger and more bonded together as individuals and as a unit. Your contribution to any of the projects will help us continue to be there and provide all that we can for the ones that do so much for our country and who are dealing with so much on a daily basis. They have been there for us, and now it is time for us to be there for them.
