EMEK is a non-profit organization that exclusively supports The Rachel Karwan Child Development Center (Merkaz Rachel in Hebrew).
Serving the residents of three Jerusalem neighborhoods--Eer Ganim, Givat Masua and Kiryat Menachem--the goal of Merkaz Rachel is to help children from low income families succeed in school (including many Ethiopian immigrant families).
At Merkaz Rachel children with learning disabilities are evaluated and treated by a team of teachers and therapists. For many of the Ethiopian children, their parents are not fluent in Hebrew and also lack the financial resources or the home environment to support their children's special educational needs.
Merkaz Rachel, a joint project of Rachel's extended family, EMEK, and Ganim, the neighborhood community center, was founded 21 years ago as a memorial to Rachel Karwan (z"l), a woman who was devoted to her family, her friends and her community.
