Fund for Forgotten People (R.A.)

The Forgotten People Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of Ethiopian youth, students and other family members living in financial distress and giving them both direct aid and, more importantly, the tools to break out of the cycle of poverty. HOW DO WE HELP? We provide stipends/scholarships for practical studies so the youth can achieve professional careers and escape minimum wage jobs . We provide laptop computers to college/university students in need so that they can successfully undertake their courses of study. We send children to summer camp and after school programs to enrich their lives. We distribute food vouchers for shopping at local supermarkets so children don't go hungry. We pay bills for families whose utilities have been cut off and help with the costs of special medication. We send repairmen for household and appliance repair. HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CHARITIES? We have neither office costs nor paid staff and operations are run entirely by volunteers, This enables operating expenses, which includes auditing, government fees and bank charges, to be held to under 1% of contributions. We have our ‘Rapid Response Team.’ Each volunteer on the Team covers a specific neighborhood and works with its municipal social workers. The social worker refers families with special needs and the volunteer provides immediate aid. This ensures that those applying for help are truly in need and that we are not duplicating support from Social Services.
