The Israeli Movement was established in 2019 under HaBrit HaEzrahit HaIsraelit (Nonprofit) to redefine the relationship between citizens and government at the local and national levels, aiming to increase the influence of residents. The current political system in Israel is structured around identities that emphasize the differences between diverse communities, this creates a rift among the citizens. Creating a regional representation system in Israel will highlight similarities and common goals, bringing unity to our nation. The Israeli Movement believes that civic, political, and leadership involvement on a local level becomes a political force at the municipal level, which, in turn, influences central government institutions. Civic activity from the bottom up enables connection among citizens with diverse political views, fostering solidarity, freedom, and equality.
The Israeli Movement operates to strengthen democracy in Israel in three areas:
1. Structures and Mechanisms: Creation of regions/layers of representation and the promotion of regional cooperation;
2. Participatory Processes: Embedding deliberative democracy in the work processes of all representative layers;
Democratic Culture: Community organizing to increase civic engagement and foster a sense of citizenship among3. all citizens.
