Bait 9 - School of Puppetry, Dolls and Acting Bait-9 was founded in 2005 in downtown Haifa, as a nonprofit organization aimed at promoting the art of Puppetry, Fringe, and Visual Theater. Bait-9 operates three schools of activity: Puppetry, Fringe Theater and Wood Carving The Wood Carving Center is the only one of its kind in Israel. It was born from the love for wood ,craftsmanship and respect for traditional methods. The center has been operating for eight consecutive years, and provides an opportunity to learn the art of wood carving in a professional, artistic and supportive way. The center offers a well-equipped workshop as well as wood carving courses, sculpture courses, and puppetry courses for anyone who is interested in applying their talents in this field Most of the work is carried out with Tilia (Linden) Wood, which is imported from Europe and is also the Czech Republic national tree – The toys and Marionettes state .The sculpting is done with chisels, knives and, in most cases, while taking the wood fiber structure into account, without hammers. The wood is approached with a special attention to details and a gentle touch. Never with force to get the work done The work begins with planning and designing the object structure, in order to create a raw visual idea. Then, a technical drawing is made with consideration given to the joints and their movement, so that at the end of the carving process the puppet can stand upright and be brought to life. The wood painting is done using traditional techniques with Oil paints and Beeswax, which do not seal the wood and allowing it to breath Every summer a Wood Carving Marathon takes place at Bait-9, which becomes a magnet for those interested in the field. The courses at the center are taught by Gidi Avishai, Carpenter and a Mechanical Toys Specialist, and Yael Erlich Morage, Founder and Director of Bait-9 Bait 9 - Woodcarving The Woodcarving Center at Bait 9 has been operating for eight years, offering opportunity to learn the woodcarving art in a professional, artistic and supportive environment in a well-equipped workshop.
