Activity of “Raglayim Be’Shnayim”
Who are we:
Raglayim Be’Shnayim is an bicycling group for sighted and visually impaired riders on tandem bicycles (bicycles for two riders) on urban paths and between cities. Raglayim Be’Shnayim provides both sport and social outlets, in order to fill the gap created by visual impairment, whether from birth or later in life. We ride in the parks and other promenades of Rishon Le’Zion, Bat Yam, Yaffo, Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Ashdon, Netanya, and other towns, and participate in national events, such as Round the Kinneret (70 km) and Round Tel Aviv (60 km), etc.
Who are our riders:
People who are blind or visually impaired from birth, people who become blind or visually impaired during their life (for example, due to illness, genetics, or accident), and sighted riders who guide the tandem bicycle. The ages of our riders range from 23 to 78.
New reality:
Blindness or visual impairment that happens suddenly or over time is one of the toughest impairments to deal with (harms independence, changes employment, significant emotional crises, impact on the family, etc.).
The financial management:
The entire organization is based on volunteerism. No one is paid a salary!! The income of the organization is primarily based on dues from the riders and small donations. The organization is not supported by the government or city. The organization receives pro bono donations of services such as legal advice, accountancy, organizational advice, marketing advice, maintenance, etc. The organization holds a 46A approval from the Income Tax Authority, allowing donations to be recognized by the donor as an expense.
What do we need the donations for:
Increase the scope of the activity by identifying and recruiting new blind and visually impaired persons to the organization (as of the end of 2023 there were 80 riders in the organization).
Purchase ordinary and electric tandem bicycles (bicycles with two seats, two sets of pedals, and two handlebars).
Establish regular maintenance for all the equipment.
Purchase a transport vehicle (including overhead – insurance, maintenance, gas).
Expanding the social activities for the riders (planned events).
