If globally, 1:5 women are raped and 1:3 are sexually assaulted in their lifetime, recent events have led to an even more violent situation in this region causing a rise in mental health issues, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, eating disorders and suicidal ideation. Maslan covers the entirety of Israel's Negev including the Gaza Envelope. Its mission is to combat the widespread prevalence of sexual assault (SA) and domestic violence (DV) in Israeli society. It strives to ensure that every survivor of SA or DV has access to support and never feels alone. It encourages them to seek help and provides legal assistance, practical aid, and emotional and therapeutic support. Maslan is committed to helping them regain their strength, resilience, and hope for the future, enabling them to overcome their experiences, and re-engage fully in daily life within their homes, work, and communities. Simultaneously, Maslan acts as a catalyst for social change by engaging diverse communities throughout the Negev to raise awareness, break the code of silence surrounding SA and DV, and address their root causes. By fostering cross-community cooperation and empowering individuals, Maslan aims to reduce the incidence of violence and build a safer, more equitable society for all residents of southern Israel—serving every sector without discrimination.
