Green Relief

Over the last two and a half weeks we have been plunged into a war that opened with the brutal massacre of civilians living on Israel’s border with Gaza. This came just days after the week of Sukkot, when we had the pleasure of hosting the festival “Green Inside and Out", attended by thousands of Jerusalemites and visitors who were celebrating the Hag in our wonderful city. It is for the most part impossible to carry on with our work “as usual”, however we must try to maintain as many of our routine activities as we can, while aiming to contribute to the effort we are making as a nation, to meet the many challenges facing our communities. The Home Front Command has not permitted large community gatherings in the public domain. Thus we are unable to hold our weekly community food rescue events in Kiryat Yovel and Kiryat Menachem, which give many families access to fresh fruit and vegetables, while rescuing it from its usual fate of dumping. We actually see a greater need to bring food to many families, where many mothers whose husbands have been drafted are home with children who have not yet fully gone back to school and preschool. Our team is bringing fresh rescued produce directly to the homes of those that need it, and we need help to increase the number of families who can benefit from this effort. We also encourage and support people who want to use their own gardens and privately owned open space to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers. Few things are more calming than a pretty flower in times of stress and anxiety, and gardening strengthens us both physically and mentally.  Here is a list of some of the items your contribution can sponsor.
