The National Institute of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation

The National Institute of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation is an Israeli non-profit dedicated to community-based neuropsychological and psychosocial rehabilitation of army veterans and civilians with brain injury and brain disease. We aim to maximize patients' well-being functional gains, and return to their former community, work, and social roles. Established in 1975, we are Israel’s leading provider of outpatient cognitive and emotional rehabilitation for individuals aged 18 and over, with brain damage following cerebral cranial and traumatic brain injuries sustained primarily in combat, accidents, and terror attacks; post-concussion syndrome; stroke, brain and non-CNS cancer; and other acquired central nervous system diseases. Our comprehensive and individualized approach to rehabilitation encompasses mental health, cognitive, family, and vocational functioning. The Institute runs six service centers in the country's center, Galilee, Haifa, and Jerusalem. There is widespread recognition that cognition, emotion, and psychosocial functioning are interlinked, and all should be integrated into rehabilitation, and this is the foundation of our holistic approach. Our multi-disciplinary interventions, comprising of neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech and language pathologists, apply an integrative model for clinical neuropsychology in a rehabilitative setting that allows the patient to undergo a meaningful process of awareness, acceptance, and adaptation which are required for coping with the multiple implications of brain injury or disease. Furthermore, by incorporating group therapies and training alongside individual therapies, we provide opportunities for practicing social skills and behaviors, rebuilding self-image, and experiencing community belonging. Individuals are referred by the Rehabilitation Department of the National Insurance and the Ministry of Defense, the Welfare Ministry, National Health Maintenance Organization or seek support alone. The National Institute of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation serves hundreds of participants each year. Our comprehensive individualized and group approach to rehabilitation encompasses holistic mental health, cognitive, family, and vocational functioning. After completing our activities, participants reintegrate into various life stages and report progress in their mental condition, family relationships, integration into rewarding positions, and earning a daily living. The Institute researches to advance the practice of neuropsychological and psychosocial rehabilitation. Our Research Unit performs comprehensive evaluations of patients to monitor methods and outcomes and dictate best practices. Our rehabilitation programs are a life-changer! After Hamas’ brutal terror attack, we expect a long and challenging period of trauma and rehabilitation. Therefore, we must prepare to serve a tremendous number of people, soldiers, and citizens with complex physical injuries and PTSD. To address their various needs, we must extend our activities, train additional institute staff members - neuropsychologists and rehabilitation psychologists - and distribute the professional knowledge accumulated over the years.
