We extend a heartfelt invitation to join us in writing and dedicating a Torah scroll in memory of Neriya Zisk HY”D, a fallen Israeli hero. Captain (Res.) Neriya Zisk HY”D served in the 52nd Battalion 401st Brigade of the IDF Armored Corps, Shiryon. He fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip on the 15th of Tevet 5784, December 27th 2023, at the young age of 24. Neriya, the third of eight siblings, is the beloved son of Yisrael and Galit Zisk. He is remembered for radiating light and joy and consistently uplifting those around him with his infectious smile and sense of humor. A devoted family man and an amazing brother, Neriya was the glue of our family. He embodied true friendship and was fully committed to the mitzvah of kibud horim, honor and respect for his parents. Neriya was born and raised on Kibbutz Meso'ot Yitzhak, where he attended the Bnei Issachar high school yeshiva before spending a year and a half at the Bnei David pre-military preparatory school in Eli. In 2019, he enlisted in the Armored Corps, where he went through rigorous training and eventually was invited to tank commander and officer courses. As a commanding officer, Neriya exemplified professionalism and compassion, never wavering in his commitment to his soldiers. Following his release in March 2023, he briefly worked in agriculture before embarking on a trip to South America. However, after the tragedy of October 7th, he returned to Israel voluntarily to valiantly serve his country and to re-join his unit. Despite not being obligated to serve, Neriya insisted on enlisting in the reserves, declaring his readiness to assume any role, from platoon commander to “regular” frontline soldier. After being sent home repeatedly, he ultimately found himself alongside familiar faces, bravely serving in the northern Gaza Strip. Throughout the conflict, Neriya remained resolute, driven by a deep sense of purpose to defend our country while maintaining his infectious zest for life. In honor of Neriya, we have chosen to commission a Torah scroll, a sacred and unifying symbol cherished by our people for generations. Operation Iron Sword began on Simchat Torah, a celebration of joy intertwined with the Torah's teachings, illustrating its enduring significance. We invite you to participate in the mitzvah of writing a Torah scroll in memory of Captain Neriya Zisk HY”D, as a tribute to his heroism and the strength of the people of Israel.
