Open Door Association - Advancing Healthy Sexuality in Israel

Sexuality is a fundamental part of every human being‘s life, yet in many ways it is still a silenced topic in our society. The lack of public discourse and the shame surrounding the subject ultimately leads to frustration, guilt, and risky behaviour such as self harm, sexual violence, unhealthy relationships, teen pregnancies etc. Open Door Association has been operating for over 60 years and is the first in Israel to recognize the need to talk openly, positively, and inclusively about sexuality, especially with youth and young adults. We operate 4 counselling centres in which teens receive counsel, support and medical services, from lab tests for sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy tests and prescriptions for contraceptives. All these services are given anonymously and without cost and are simply not available elsewhere. After years of helping and supporting tens of thousands of teenagers, young people, parents and educational staff, this time we are the ones who need support. While the past year has made it very difficult for us to continue our activities, it has also led to an increase in calls and raised the need for personal, accessible and professional care for Israeli teens. Unfortunately, we were forced to completely close a very significant branch in Haifa due to lack of resources, and other branches are also at risk of closure.
