100,000 People Live with Epilepsy in Israel
Each year, 5,500 new patients are diagnosed. Behind these numbers are countless personal stories:
Liat, whose 7-year-old daughter isn’t entitled to a medical assistant at school.
Omer, who must wait 8 months for a neurologist appointment.
Naomi, from a southern kibbutz, who travels two hours with her 4-year-old to see an expert epileptologist.
And thousands of others, each facing unique and often overwhelming challenges.
In an ideal world, these individuals would receive rapid diagnoses, optimal treatment, school support, and professional guidance.
Unfortunately, the reality is completely different.
Daily Challenges Faced by Children, Adults, and Families Living with Epilepsy
• Medical Challenges: Months-long waits for appointments, and long travel to see one of only 30 specialists nationwide.
• Employment and Financial Struggles.
• Lack of Public Services: No centralized system to coordinate information and rights.
• Exhausting Bureaucratic Processes: Long, complex, and overwhelming.
• Limited Transparency: Patients don’t know all their treatment options.
• Inadequate Educational Support: Schools are unaware of the needs of kids with epilepsy.
• Outdated Social Perceptions: Stigma, shame, and misconceptions persist.
And so much more…
