This year, while we faced challenges on seven fronts, hundreds of women in Israel fought an eighth battle—within their homes.
In a year when the words "freedom" and "liberty" gained profound and chilling significance, 'Agunot' and women denied a Get continued their fight to reclaim their personal freedom, regain control of their lives, and rebuild from scratch after losing everything.
Often, this struggle is accompanied by various forms of abuse—physical, sexual, financial, and emotional—and it stretches over years during which life comes to a halt.
Mavoi Satum does not leave these women to fight alone. We provide them with a holistic framework of emotional and social support as well as legal representation.
"I felt helpless—trampled by the people closest to me, by the system, and betrayed by those who were supposed to protect me. I didn’t know where to turn or what to do. Sometimes, just knowing that there was somewhere to go, someone who cared, someone who looked out for me, kept me going, especially with the stress of the war and the need to care for my children.”
The phenomenon of 'Agunot' is far more widespread than commonly assumed. It affects women from all sectors, ages, backgrounds, and levels of education and income. These women lose control over their lives and their best years. They are prevented from remarrying or having more children, held hostage, extorted, threatened, and subjected to severe distress.
We will not leave them alone!
