Naturally: Children of Holit and Netzer Sereni Invite You to Participate in Rebuilding Holit
A powerful friendship forged in the face of tragedy – the children of Holit, an Israeli community devastated by terror, and Netzer Sereni, a neighboring kibbutz offering refuge, have united to realize a dream and contribute to the healing of their community.
Background and Need
On the morning of October 7, 2023, the idyllic community of Holit, located in southern Israel, was shattered by a horrific Hamas terror attack. 15 community members were brutally murdered, and 4 kibbutz workers were abducted, two tragically losing their lives in captivity. The remaining 170 residents, including dozens of children, were forced to flee their homes, seeking safety and solace in the central city of Rehovot and Kibbutz Revivim in the south of Israel.
The profound upheaval and trauma, and the displacement from home for several years, inflict deep emotional wounds on the children of Holit. To cope with the immense challenges, they found a haven at Kibbutz Netzer Sereni, where they have integrated into the informal education in an attempt to hold on to something familiar.
Human bonds are the answer
Witnessing the unique bond forming between the children of Holit and Netzer Sereni, Dr. Ruty Castel Fox, a veterinarian from Netzer Sereni, saw an opportunity to foster healing and growth through collaborative creation. She reimagined a children's book she had written, "Naturally," which portrays farm animals patiently awaiting their turn at the veterinarian's clinic, a metaphor for the children's own journey towards healing.
Together, the children breathed new life into "Naturally" with their vibrant illustrations, transforming it into a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and the enduring power of friendship. Born from tragedy, the book embodies their collective strength and unwavering hope for a brighter future. "Naturally" has also been translated into English, extending its message of healing and hope.
Now, the children of Holit and Netzer Sereni invite you to join them in their inspiring journey to rebuild Holit!
