Commemoration of the fallen - Horev institutions

בעוז רוחם – Commemoration of the fallen - מלחמת חרבות ברזל In the past year, Am Yisrael has experienced some terrible days, yet these days have also been filled with glory. Alongside the immense pain suffered by our brothers and fallen soldiers we have seen the tremendous strength of our people, both through the amazing bravery of our fighters and the outstanding response to the situation from all Am Yisrael. We are all so proud to be part of this wonderful nation. "הן עם כלביא יקום וכארי יתנשא" During the heroic fighting, Horev has lost 13 fighters who sacrificed themselves for Am Yisrael, 10 graduates and 3 teachers who taught at different times over the years. Yossi Hershkowitz, Yoni Steinberg, Rav Aviram Chariv, Guy Shabtai, Netanel Hershkowitz, Eliav Abitbul, Rav Amichai Vizan, Nadav Parchi, Gilad Elmaliach, Alon Safrai, Yakir Hechster, Yosef Gedalya and Efraim Yackman. ה' יקום דמם Each one of them a hero righteous and pure. From eternal gratitude and the wish to continue their special way, we feel it's our holy duty to perpetuate their names in various ways. Amutat Horev, together with the heads of all Horev institutions have decided to write a Sefer Tora in their memory. Parents, students and the whole wider family can take part in this project. The Sefer Tora has been written in a special decorative Sefardi writing and please God, on the 2nd of Nissan, we will mark the completion of its writing with a special ceremony in which members of the fallen soldiers' families, together will all the students, teachers, parents, graduates and wider Horev community will take part. That evening we will also have a special meal with the families of the fallen soldiers in honor of those who were killed. In the various Horev institutions we are also working on different educational initiatives which will characterize each fallen soldier so that our students can learn from each one. Horev institutions have been accompanying our graduates for 90 years already at the various stages of their education, from childhood to graduation all in the spirit of "תורה עם דרך ארץ" We educate in the light of the Tora with a love for the country, Zionism and responsibility for all. The Horev institutions, the primary schools, the Yeshiva High school and the Ulpana form together one community, one family that mourns the losses and remembers them yet continues forward on its mission. We view widespread participation in this important mitzvah of writing a Sefer Tora and remembering the fallen as very important and hope that you all see this as an opportunity to join in this sacred project. "לא ימוש ספר תורה הזה מפיך והגית בו יומם ולילה"
