A community synthetic soccer field in memory of IDF soldier Guy Karmiel, of blessed memory.

On Monday, January 13, 2025, our world collapsed upon receiving the terrible news of the fall of our beloved, Israel’s hero, Guy Carmiel, a fighter in the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit, during an operational mission in Gaza. Alongside Guy, four of his brave teammates also lost their lives: Yair Shoshan, Yehav Hadar, Yoav Peper, and Aviel Weissman – may their memories be a blessing. We, his family and friends, have decided to honor Guy’s legacy in various ways that reflect who he was: a man of values, a nature and hiking enthusiast, a born athlete, a beloved friend, and someone who spread light and joy wherever he went. In collaboration with the Gedera Council, Guy’s hometown, we are planning to establish a community synthetic soccer field in his memory, near his home. The field represents Guy’s deep love for sports, particularly soccer (he played in Gedera’s youth soccer division) and will also provide many children across Gedera with the opportunity to train, play, and enjoy the new field—just as Guy did in life, always bringing joy to others, helping, and giving of himself more than anything else. The donations raised will allow us to take part in this unique project, which is our heart’s desire. Together with the town, we will commemorate Guy and his legacy in the most honorable and fitting way, placing a memorial near the field so that all the children who use it will know who Guy was and what he stood for. We will also hold a dedicated memorial ceremony upon the field’s inauguration. Project status update: On March 26, 2025, the Gedera Council will issue a tender for the construction of the field. A Few Words About GuyGuy, the son of Meirav and Oren, was born and raised in Gedera and was surrounded by many friends from an early age. Everyone who met him immediately connected with him—his easygoing nature, his playfulness, his ability to get along with everyone, and his genuine approach to people. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his childhood friends. Even after 21 days of military service, he would return home, change out of his uniform, and immediately go out to meet them. He especially loved hiking, meeting at their secret and regular spot over coffee or beer—just being together was all that mattered. When it came time for military service, Guy never had any doubts—he was determined to serve in a meaningful combat role and give everything he had for his country. He was overjoyed when he passed the selection process and was accepted into the elite reconnaissance unit. Despite the tough training and countless challenges, Guy never complained. He was always optimistic and would constantly reassure his family: "Don’t worry, everything’s okay." Guy loved his unit and his team, and they loved him back. His optimism and unique sense of humor won over everyone’s hearts. Just a week before entering Gaza for the mission, Guy celebrated his 20th birthday. The whole family was waiting for him to return home to celebrate properly. Tragically, we received the most heartbreaking news instead. Guy was the perfect son. Handsome, intelligent, and funny, he filled his parents and family with immense pride and joy. Guy and his fellow fallen heroes gave their lives for our country, and we can only hope to be worthy of their sacrifice.
