Hi, I’m Roy Schwartz, 24 years old, living in a kibbutz near Gaza with my partner. Most people celebrate their birthday once a year – but me? I celebrate three times a year. Over the past year and a half, we have all been living through the Iron Swords War. During this time, I was injured twice: • December 4, 2023 – severely wounded as a team commander in the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit. • December 31, 2024 – moderately wounded as a combat officer in the same unit. These two dates have become additional birthdays for me—a living reminder of the fragility of life. Each injury threw me back into the same deep yet simple question: Why? Why did this happen to me? Why me? I may never find an answer, but I do know one thing: life is precious, and I want to fill mine with meaningful actions and giving to others. My Mission – Shalva Summer Camp As part of my physical rehabilitation from my second injury, I am committed to raising ₪30,000 (~$8,000) by October for the children of Shalva organization. This money will allow Shalva’s children to enjoy a summer like any other child. At the end of this journey and my recovery, I plan to run the New York Marathon in their honor—to run for them, for their future. How Can You Help?
