"Yotsrim Halom" - Dare To Dream

Yotsrim Chalom - "Dare To Dream", is an empowerment program run by young women who are doing Sherut Leumi (National service) in the framework of Bat Ami organization. The program is designated to kids in 4th-6th grade. It was first run in Netivot 7 years ago. Its success led to the expansion of the program in other cities in Israel's social periphery: Ofakim, Sderot, Mitspe-Ramon, Beer-Sheva, Dimona and South Tel-Aviv. The program focuses on instilling a sense of feeling among the participants that they can succeed and develop their ambition and motivation for the future. Each week, the participants receive homework help and take part in a variety of after-school activities such as drama, dance, voice lessons, sports, and music. The highlight of the program is the year-end show, which involves extensive preparations together with the volunteers running the program. The show serves as a meaningful experience that the kids remember fondly as they grow older. The program was developed to supplement the formal education system, which measures success only in terms of academic achievement, without sufficient attention to kids' nature and needs. This kind of measurement marks certain children as less successful, and this detracts from their feeling of capability and their motivation to succeed. We believe that children who feel that they are good at something will have the motivation to take on new challenges and will develop self-confidence and aspirations for the future.
