Our Story, Lema’anam was founded by Dr. Tamara Kolitz in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which sadly emphasized the dire need of Holocaust survivors for accessible professional medical assistance. During her residency Dr. Kolitz initially learned of the urgent need for free-of-charge medical care for Holocaust survivors. She began offering free medical service to survivors, particularly to those who were immobile or incapable of traveling to a clinic. Once the first COVID lockdown in Israel began, the demand for these visits steadily increased. Very rapidly, the demand overwhelmed the supply, and she understood the strength and impact in creating a battalion of physicians who would be willing to dedicate their time and resources. She reached out to her peers and the response was overwhelming, hundreds of Physicians, including many Heads of departments and senior professionals, registered to volunteer. In addition, respectable leaders in the third sector joined our mission and this led to the foundation of the organization, LeMa’anam – Physicians for Holocaust survivors. Today the organization has over 800 Physicians and 1200 partners and volunteers. Our vision is pure, it is our mission to provide easily accessible individualized medical care of the highest quality, free of charge, to all Holocaust survivors living in Israel today. As part of our founding stones we established a call centre which is manned by young physicians and our hot line is open 5 days a week. We receive calls from Survivors in Israel, nationwide. LeMa’anam’s foundation was established thanks to several designated donations, it is now imperative that we continue to grow and expand. We are asking for your support so we can complete our mission. We must expand our medical network of volunteers, improve our essential call centre, purchase vital equipment for our medical staff and establish our unique mobile clinics, “Lema’anam on Wheels”. We call you! Physicians and medical staff of all fields to come and join us, lend a hand to all Holocaust survivors who are still with us today, so that we may continue to save lives with your help. It is only with your involvement and participation’ donation and support that we can enable a glimmer of hope, assistance and support the remaining days of a generation who will soon no longer be with us.
