Ramot Zion 2021

There aren’t many such buildings. The building housing Kehillat Ramot Zion keeps its doors open to everyone, literally from every walk of life. For nearly 50 years it has been a home for people seeking community, connectiveness, opportunity for personal growth, and an environment for raising children within a Jewish tradition that is authentic and proud while courageously embracing values of equality, inquiry and inclusivity. Thousands have passed through its gates and partaken of its richness for their own life journeys. Hundreds of thousands benefit from the clear, strong message that Ramot Zion and others broadcast throughout Jerusalem and Israel: the message of Judaism that is moderate, thoughtful, egalitarian, and non-judgmental; Judaism that broadens minds and opens hearts. But the roof of this extraordinary building has been leaking badly in recent years and will be at risk of collapse if we do not fix it. Our congregation alone will not be able to pay for its repair and we do not receive any subsidy from the Jerusalem Municipality or the Ministry of Religious Affairs for this or any other purpose. Besides serving the needs of a broad population – above and beyond those of our actual members – Ramot Zion’s location in northern Jerusalem means that its unique message of progressive pluralism embodies vital strategic significance much greater than what one might expect from a congregation its size. We are therefore appealing to the wider public to help us repair the roof that shelters us, so that our congregation and the values it represents can survive and flourish for years to come. With the help of donations from those who support and encourage what we do and what we stand for, we can together keep our special and important kehillah strong, dry, warm, and welcoming.
