Thelma Yellin: Where Budding Artists Bloom

For the past sixty years, The Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts has been enriching Israel’s cultural scene with remarkable performers and creative artists. Israel’s culturally savvy audiences owe much of their enthusiasm to Thelma Yellin. At home and abroad, the very name Thelma Yellin stands for excellence in the field of arts education in the eyes of both lay people and aficionados. The Thelma Yellin program nurtures the artistic talents of adolescents while affording them a well-rounded, excellent high school education. From the very moment they pass the school’s demanding entrance exams, Thelma Yellin’s students strive for excellence. The school offers its students both a supportive environment and a common language with their peers. Their teachers’ sympathetic ears render them full partners in achieving students’ goals. Thelma Yellin’s students come from all over the country and represent diverse social backgrounds. Financial capacity is never an obstacle to acceptance; the school offers scholarships that guarantee access to the program to those in need. Thelma Yellin is one of a handful of specialty high schools whose students come from all over the country. The resources which support the school on both a national and municipal level are insufficient to subsidize its mission. Consequently, additional payments on the part of parents have always been used to fund the art departments’ extensive activities. However, recent changes in the Ministry of Education’s guidelines now limit these payments. Consequently, the school is encountering difficulty in operating its arts programs as in the past. Not only have we struggled to maintain the high standards necessary to achieve excellence, but we have also had to cut back on the admission of talented students who cannot afford these additional payments. The Thelma Yellin Friends and Alumni Foundation has started a crowdfunding campaign to assist the school in continuing to fulfill its mission. Thelma Yellin is dear to our hearts. We all cherish the values and memories from our years there which made us who we are today. Whether we have continued to work in the field we studied or not, the school’s contribution to our individual journeys is invaluable. Our goal in this campaign is to enable Thelma Yellin to continue to fulfill its mission. Your contribution will help to guarantee that the next generation of young Israeli artists has the advantages we had. Please join us in giving to this campaign so that Thelma Yellin can continue to fulfill its mission for Israeli artists and culture “Friends and Alumni of ‘Thelma Yellin’ School” registered association 58-036-200-2
