Roman Spivak - 330 km for TIKVOT

My name is Roman Spivak I’d like to share with you a bit of my personal journey with you – a journey that, through my love of trails and running, helped me emerge from darkness back into “the light". During my years as a paratrooper serving my duty in the Israel Defense Forces , I saw, first hand, destruction, death and horrors that I would not wish anyone to experience. During my service, I had the misfortune of being present at the Sbarro Pizzeria Bomb attack in Jerusalem in 2001 in which 15 innocent people were killed. I found I was suffering from PTSD. To deal with this trauma I started to run. I found that running relieved my stress and anxiety and provided me with the drive and focus I needed to work towards a goal. I now have ahead of me my biggest challenge yet – the Tor de Geants Race - a 330 KM race taking place September in Italy. I am dedicating this race and raising funds for TIKVOT, whose motto is to rehabilitate and empower wounded IDF soldiers & terror victims through extreme and challenging sports. Extreme sports push you to overcome fears and explore your own limits and provides the motivation to set new goals. For me, personally, it has been critical to my ongoing recovery.
