Adele’s Mitzvah project
By Machsi Oz (Former Beth David Institue)
In memory of Elissa Zucker, may her memory be for a blessing
Ends: 21:00
Donors: 8
Despite her young age, Adele has close connections to the deaf-blind community. One connection, her dear family friend Elissa Zucker, was a professional in the field of deaf-blindness until her untimely passing several years ago. Now, in lieu of gifts for her upcoming Bat Mitzvah and in memory of Elissa, Adele has decided to raise funds for the deaf-blind community in Israel. She particularly wants to support a unique program to help deaf adolescents who are in the process of losing their precious vision. This is urgent because the window of opportunity, in which they retain enough vision to master vital emotional and practical skills to cope with present and future challenges, is short. The shock of learning that they are not “just” deaf but also in the process of going blind, due to Usher Syndrome, is devastating. The program offers weekly one on one meetings with a role model who continues to cope with deaf-blindness yet has gone on to study, marry and live a full life and who can provide real empathy, encouragement, emotional and practical help.
Please help this impressive young woman reach her goal and enable these deaf children who are going blind to get the help they need!
