Since its founding in 2014, The Jerusalem African Community Center (JACC) has assisted 3000 asylum seekers, refugees, and status-less individuals in Israel's capital through a range of projects and programs. The community of asylum seekers in Jerusalem-- which is made up of refugees from Eritrea, Sudan, and Ethiopia who fled their homes fearing persecution-- lives for the most part without permanent status in Israel, and suffers from difficulties and barriers in many aspects of their lives. The members of the community do not have access to Israel's social safety net, and often have difficulty accessing high quality employment or health insurance.
Under these circumstances, JACC's goal is to improve the quality of live for members of the community and to provide them with basic services that the government refuses to provide, in a range of fields.
This campaign is intended to:
Continue to provide psycho-social support for women and men who suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress and other mental health conditions
To expand the scope of our projects for children and adolescents, including art activities, academic enrichment, and emotional support
To support professional skills trainings for adults, including developing language learning classes and courses to learn necessary skills for various professions (hairdressing, computers, carpentry, and others)
