Bringing Nature Back to the City

The smell of fresh earth, the sound of birds chirping and bees buzzing, the taste of freshly picked cauliflower, the feeling of togetherness around a campfire... Sounds like a distant dream of village life, but this is happening right in the heart of the city. For 15 years, Earth’s Promise has been initiating ground-breaking projects in the Negev and turning abandoned city spaces into ecological gardens. In these spaces, we teach people how to grow food and not only bring back butterflies and animals, but also the human element – community. Among the vegetable beds, you’ll find families with children, young and old people from different backgrounds, who together form a diverse community, creating a sense of belonging and mutual support. In the past few years, we have been growing quickly. We established Be’eri Farm, an ecological farm in Beersheva’s Old City, with volunteers from all over the Negev. We have also established 19 educational and community gardens in neglected lots, and we have attracted more than 300 volunteers to lead and initiate more environmental projects, all with the goal of bringing nature back to the city. To reach more populations and places, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign, and we need your support! Our vision is for every child and adult in Beersheva and the Negev to have access to a piece of nature within walking distance of their homes – a place to connect with the city's diverse community and show children how food is grown.
