About "Ofek L'Chaim" Association
-
Who We Are: A public association established by Ruth and Amiad Taub in memory of their late son, Ofek, aimed at transforming profound grief into a driving force for social, medical, and moral change in Israel.
-
Core Mission: Leading an uncompromising struggle to prevent medical malpractice, promoting patient safety and a transparent healthcare system, alongside personal case management and full, free-of-charge support for families whose worlds have been upended by a medical crisis.
-
Field Uniqueness: The only organization in Israel combining individualized case management for victims, active legislation, innovative workshops for medical staff on full disclosure, and activities recognized as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) by the Supreme Court and as an authorized body by the Ministry of Education.
- The association works tirelessly to improve the healthcare and welfare systems in Israel, prevent the next disaster, and provide a comprehensive support framework for families whose worlds have been overturned by medical crises and negligence. The association has developed specialized responses and projects for families with special needs and, since the outbreak of the Swords of Iron War, for the physically and mentally wounded of Israel's wars.
Core Areas of Activity
-
Patient Safety and Malpractice Prevention: Leading public campaigns against cover-ups in the healthcare system, operating workshops for medical staff, and promoting legislation to increase transparency and patients' rights.
-
Family Support and "Ofek Officers": Providing immediate guidance and advisory assistance during the hospitalization stage for families who have experienced a medical crisis, alongside respite and leisure activities for nursing-care children and special-needs parents.
-
Community and Social Initiatives: Establishing therapeutic petting corners in special-education schools, respite corners for soldiers on IDF bases, gemach (free-loan) distributions of Chumashim and prayer books, and additional projects commemorating his spirit.
-
"Seeing the Horizon" (Roim Et HaOfek) Campaign: Each year, around December (and specifically on December 5th), a nationwide Day of Good Deeds is marked in Ofek's memory and name. Thousands of citizens take part in the initiative, performing good deeds large and small—ranging from visiting senior citizens, distributing baked goods and helping others, to supporting needy families. Through this, Ofek’s ripples of kindness continue to illuminate the world.
-
The Post-War Battle: In light of the challenging condition of tens of thousands of physically and mentally wounded individuals from the Swords of Iron War, the association has developed a therapeutic framework, resilience workshops, and employment training for wounded security forces personnel and their families.
