Dear friend, We are soon approaching Chag HaPesach, the holiday of freedom and foundation of Jewish faith. The purpose of yetzias Mitzrayim was the Jews’ ultimate acceptance of the Torah, as stated explicitly, “When He will redeem you from Mitzrayim you will serve G-d” (Shemos 3:12). To receive the Torah the Jews first had to be redeemed from exile. Our generation thankfully enjoys relative prosperity, and this enables a high level of Torah study and the ability to fulfill mitzvos with ease. However, there are still many who don’t enjoy this comfort and cannot adequately support themselves, especially those struggling with mental or emotional issues. It is our responsibility to redeem them from this “Mitzrayim” (literally, narrow straits) so they too can achieve the goal of receiving the Torah and serving G-d in ease and comfort. Chazal tell us to “be careful with the sons of the poor, for from them Torah will emerge” (Nedarim 81). Yeshivas Chiddushei Harim, a beacon of Torah and yiras shamayim in the secular city of Tel Aviv, is known for high intellectual performance and standards in Yiddishkeit. This is in large part due to the administration and staff’s unusual concern for the student’s physical and spiritual wellbeing. Many of our students come from families who lack the means to properly support them. The cost of living in Israel is one of the highest in the world, and this directly contributes to high statistics of families living below the poverty line. When his parents are struggling, a yeshivah student cannot be at ease and apply himself properly to serious Torah study. In some cases concern evolves into anxiety and eventually into various disorders or emotional instability. The yeshivah goes to great lengths to help these students by providing help, such as mentors, professional counselors, and gift cards at clothing shops before Yamim Tovim. On a daily basis the yeshivah serves hot nutritious meals and makes sure the students are all well-adjusted and have everything they need. Some parents admit that their boys enjoy better meals in yeshivah than at home. Baruch Hashem, we see our students finishing yeshivah happy, healthy, and well-prepared for life. The programs listed above cost the yeshivah an astronomical amount of money. In the past year the yeshivah spent $600,000 on the mentor program, and now a $50,000 value was distributed in gift cards for the upcoming Pesach season. Our yeshivah is privileged to have our dear student R’ Motti Ibenbaum הי"ו as its dear friend and supporter. Aware of the scope of the yeshivah’s activities, he has decided to dedicate this year’s aliyos toward the mentor program and Yom Tov gift cards, which cost the yeshivah $50,000 monthly. We hope you will partner with us and enable our students to leave their personal exile and climb the ladder of personal success. In this zechus may you merit the ultimate redemption and the fulfillment of the prophecy, “as in the days that you left Egypt I will show you wonders” (Micha 7:15), speedily in our days.
